Tamuke Shigetsugu served as a bushō during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods.

Shigetsugu did not have notable achievements and details of his life are uncertain.  Based on genealogical charts from the Edo period, he was born as the second son of Anekōji Naritsugu of the family of provincial governors of Hida.  He is said to have been adopted by Tamuke Shigeharu, the Provisional Vice Councilor of State from an illegitimate branch of the Niwata family.

In 1512, he was invested with the title of Junior Fifth Rank (Lower).  In 1521, he was appointed as chamberlain and, in 1522, elevated to Junior Fifth Rank (Upper).  In 1526, he earned the title of Senior Fifth Rank (Lower) and Major General of Imperial Guards of the Right Division.

In the tenth month of 1527, upon the death of Anekōji Naritoshi (Shigetsugu’s older brother and head of the Anekōji clan), Shigetsugu inherited and revitalized the clan, and is said to have changed his name to Anekōji Takatsuna.  Although an individual named Tamuke Shigetsugu inherited the clan, it is uncertain whether that is the same person as Takatsuna.  Moreover, there is no record that an individual named Takatsuna was the next head of the Anekōji clan.

In the third month of 1556, he was eliminated by a rising Mitsuki Yoshiyori (also known as Anekōji Tsuguyori) of an illegitimate branch of the Anekōji, whereupon the Furukawa-Anekōji family came to an end.  Thereafter, in 1559, the vestiges of the Anekōji family were inherited by his son, Anekōji Yoritsuna.

There are few details regarding Anekōji Takatsuna (the second son of Naritsugu and younger brother of Naritoshi).  If Shigetsugu is the same individual as Takatsuna, Takatsuna is surmised to have died in 1576.
