Ujiie Akiuji served as a bushō during the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods.  He was a retainer of the Mogami clan and was called by the title of Owari-no-kami.

Akiuji was born as the son of Narusawa Michitada, a cousin of Ujiie Morimune.  His original name was Narusawa Akiuji.

After the death of Ujiie Morimune, Akiuji succeeded to the headship of the clan.  He received the daughter of Mogami Yoshiaki, Takehime, as his wife.  As a veteran of the Mogami clan, he held an elevated status with a commensurate income of 18,000 koku.

Known as a fierce warrior, during a siege of Yatsunuma Castle in Asahi in Dewa, the acts of Akiuji himself turned the tide of the battle.  In 1600, during the Battle of Sekigahara, Akiuji clashed against the Uesugi army at Hasedō Castle and valiantly repelled them.

In 1614, after the death of his lord, Yoshiaki, Akiuji managed political affairs in the province at the same time as controlling the chaos within the family.  He served two generations of lords, Mogami Iechika and Mogami Yoshitoshi but, on 8/21 of Genna 8 (1622), after the removal of the Mogami clan from their position, he was turned over to serve the Mōri clan.  Thereafter, his descendants continued in service of the Chōshū domain until the end of the Edo period.
