Suzuki Shigetatsu (Hyūga-no-kami) was an individual who lived during the Sengoku period. He served as the lord of Terabe Castle in Mikawa Province.
In 1558, Shigetatsu abandoned the Imagawa family and, together with Miyake Takakiyo, the lord of Hirose Castle, sided with Oda Nobunaga. On 2/5 of Eiroku 1 (1558), Matsudaira Motoyasu (later known as Tokugawa Ieyasu) attacked Shigetatsu at Terabe Castle on the grounds of Shigetatsu’s betrayal of the Imagawa. Known as the Siege of Terabe Castle, this was Motoyasu’s first experience in battle. Matsudaira Shigeyoshi joined in the assault. After setting fires, Motoyasu captured the castle and the Suzuki clan submitted to the Imagawa again.
During the assault, Shigetatsu was killed in action but the Terabe-Suzuki avoided extinction and at some time later made a comeback.
