The Twenty-Four Elite of the Kuroda were comprised of a group of elite retainers of Kuroda Nagamasa, a bushō, daimyō, and the first lord of the Fukuoka domain in Chikuzen Province in the early Edo period. Emulating the Seven Spears of Shizugatake, the designation of these retainers was made during the Kyōhō era (1716 to 1736) of the Edo period. Included among this group were a smaller set of eight retainers comprised of relatives and hereditary retainers of the Kuroda referred to as the Eight Tigers of the Kuroda. There is an alternative referred to as the Twenty-Five Elite of the Kuroda that includes Nagamasa. There is another theory that this refers to retainers of the Kuroda domain included in a unit for Edo Castle during the Edo period.
