Abe Masakatsu served as a retainer of the Tokugawa clan.

The Abe were multi-generational retainers of the Tokugawa.  Masakatsu served from around the time that Tokugawa Ieyasu was taken as a hostage by the Imagawa clan under their lord, Imagawa Yoshimoto. Masakatsu participated in battles against the Imagawa and the Kai-Takeda clans.

In 1590, Ieyasu transferred Masakatsu to the Kantō and assigned him a fief of 5,000 koku in Hatogaya in Musashi Province.  In 1596, he was bestowed with the Toyotomi surname.  Masakatsu died in Ōsaka in the fourth month of 1600 (prior to the Battle of Sekigahara) and was succeeded by his son, Abe Masatsugu.
