Lifespan: 15xx to the fifth month of Keichō 20 (1615)
Rank:bushō
Clan: Sogō
Father: Sogō Masayasu
Siblings: Senmatsumaru, Masahide, Bandō Yasunaga
Sogō Masahide served as a bushō during the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods.
Masahide was born as the second son of Sogō Masayasu. Sogō Senmatsumaru was his older brother while his younger brother adopted the name of Bandō Yasunaga. Masahide’s birth year is uncertain, but his father died in battle in 1586, so it was before this event. In 1586, after the death of Masayasu at the Battle of Hetsugigawa, Toyotomi Hideyoshi did not recognize Masahide’s rights to succession of the Sogō landholdings, and he was removed from service, becoming a rōnin, or wandering samurai, from an early age. In the fifth month of 1615, Masahide fought on the side of the Toyotomi forces in the Siege of Ōsaka and was killed in action in Amagasaki in Settsu Province.
