Niiro Sukehisa served as a bushō during the Sengoku period. He was a retainer of the Shimazu clan.
Sukehisa was born as the son of Niiro Tadasuke of an illegitimate branch of the Niiro clan.
After his great-grandfather, Niiro Korehisa, died fighting against the main branch of the Niiro clan, Sukehisa served the main branch for several generations. In 1538, the Niiro clan incurred an attack from Shimazu Tadatomo, lost their base at Shibushi, and the family dispersed. Sukehisa accompanied his son, Niiro Tadamoto, and moved to Tabuse. Sukehisa served Shimazu Tadayoshi of the Izaku family (a cadet family of the Shimazu), acting as a go-between for Sukehisa’s uncle, Niiro Tadazumi, an academic instructor of Tadayoshi.
