Nagao Kagehito served as a bushō during the late Muromachi period.  Kagehito was the founder of the Ashikaga-Nagao clan and served as the lord of Kannō Castle in Shimotsuke Province.

Kagehito was born as the second son of Nagao Sanekage.

In the twelfth month of 1454, his father, Sanekage, and older brother, Nagao Kagesumi, together with Uesugi Noritada (the ninth head of the Yamanouchi-Uesugi and the deputy shōgun of the Kantō), were murdered by Ashikaga Shigeuji.  Kagehito then inherited the headship of the clan and served Noritada’s younger brother, Uesugi Fusaaki (the tenth head of the Yamanouchi-Uesugi and the deputy shōgun of the Kantō), to fight against Shigeuji.  This occurred in connection with the Kyōtoku War that lasted from 1455 to 1483.

In 1459, he participated in the Battle of Ōta-no-shō during the Irako War.  Fusaaki built a fort in Irako and assembled commanders including Uesugi Mochitomo (shugo daimyō), Uesugi Fusasada (shugo daimyō), Uesugi Norifusa, and Uesugi Masafuji.  Upon hearing this news, Shigeuji charged out to attack Irako.  On 10/14, the two armies clashed at a manor called Ōta-no-shō.  Fusaaki’s forces incurred losses including, among others, Uesugi Norifusa.

In 1465, upon the recommendation of Fusaaki, Kagehito was appointed by the Muromachi bakufu to serve as their representative in the Ashikaga manor in Shimotsuke Province.  In the eleventh month of 1466, he entered Kannō Castle.  Thereafter, the family of Kagehito changed from being called the Kamakura-Nagao clan to being called the Ashikaga-Nagao clan.  The Useugi clan established their base and he deployed to the Battle of Tsunatorihara in Kazusa Province in 1468 and to Shimotsuke in 1471, toppling Koga Castle.  Kagehito served in these battles but, the next year, was killed in the midst of a counterattack by Shigeuji at the Ashikaga manor.  He is surmised to have been twenty-eight years old.  Kagehito was succeeded by his lineal heir, Nagao Sadakage.
