Hineno Takayoshi served as a bushō during the Sengoku period. He was the first lord of the Suwa domain in Shinano Province.
In 1539, Takayoshi was born as the lineal heir of Hineno Hironari who, at the time, was a retainer of the Saitō clan of Mino Province.
Takayoshi first served the Mino-Saitō clan. After the decimation of the Saitō by the Oda in 1573, Takayoshi entered into service for Oda Nobunaga, becoming a member of the umamawari, or cavalry, led by Oda Nobutada. After the demise of Nobunaga in 1582, Takayoshi served Oda Nobutaka, followed by Hashiba Hideyoshi. In 1590, at the Conquest of Odawara, he captured Yamanaka Castle. As recognition for his achievement, he was awarded a fief of 38,000 (or 27,000) koku in Takashima in Shinano.
Over a period of seven years, he built Takashima Castle which was called the Floating Castle of Suwa. During the Bunroku Campaign on the Korean Peninsula, Takayoshi was stationed in Nagoya in Hizen Province. He also contributed to the construction of Fushimi Castle in the environs of Kyōto.
In 1600, in the prelude to the Battle of Sekigahara, Takayoshi joined the Eastern Army, but, on 6/26, suddenly died of illness. He was sixty-two years old. Takayoshi was succeeded by his eldest son and lineal heir, Hineno Yoshiaki. Yoshiaki became a daimyō and served as the lord of domains in Shinano, Shimotsuke, and Bungo provinces.
