Shimada Hidemitsu served as a bushi during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. He was a retainer of the Oda clan.
Hidemitsu served as a magistrate for Oda Nobunaga. In the eighth month of 1556, he was invited by Nobunaga’s mother, Dota Gozen, to Suemori Castle and, together with Murai Sadakatsu, informed Nobunaga of the surrender of Oda Nobuyuki. On 4/25 of Tenshō 2 (1571), upon orders of Nobunaga, he dismissed from their duties individuals at the Tōdai-Hachiman Shrine and the Daibutsu Temple.
Hidemitsu last appears in an entry dated 4/11 of Tenshō 3 (1575) in an account written by Yoshida Kanemi so he is surmised to have died soon thereafter.
