Aoyama Tadatsugu served as a bushi during the Azuchi-Momoyama period.

In 1577, Tadatsugu was born as the lineal heir of Aoyama Tadanari, a daimyō who served as the first lord of the Hitachi-Edosaki domain and the ninth head of the main branch of the Aoyama family.

Prior to inheriting the headship of the clan, he died prematurely either from smallpox or pneumonia.  He was eighteen years old.  His second younger brother, Aoyama Tadatoshi, became the heir to the clan.  Accompanying the inauguration of the Edo bakufu, the Aoyama became a daimyō family.
